What ideas do you have for using this network? Who else should we invite to join?

One of the best ways to use this network will be to communicate with one another! There is a lot going on at the Journal and this will be a great place to share information! Leslie

I wonder if this may not be a nice tool to 'open up' and 'democratize' the journal for all authors, potential authors, reviewers and of course the editorial board. We still must maintain the academic and professional integrity, but as a way of increasing the flow of ideas and debate, this should be a win-win for the journal and its stakeholders. Should we consider inviting all authors and ad hoc reviewers?

Yes, I think that is a good idea. We wanted to experiment with the core team first. Also, I think we can ask 'friends of the journal' to invite their friends too. I would like to announce on HR Div Net too.

That is a great question. The opportunities are endless, it seems. IHRIM is in the process of investigating its own Web 2.0/social networking solution and we are attempting to address the same questions there. An interesting first question here, is who are, or might be the audiences/communities we want to engage (Editorial board, reviewers, authors/contributors, potential readers of the journal.

Another way to word the question that Kevin mentioned is "what do we want this particular social network site to be?" If we want it to be a broad forum for anything related to HR science-practice (and I think it could be that since there is both opportunity and need), then I would pursue the idea mentioned by James. Open this up to anyone with any association with the journal, and to others who should be associated with the journal!

I would add that given the journal's mission as a bridge between science and practice, that we might wish to exemplify that mission in this forum by ensuring that we have practitioners and academics talking to each other. One idea to that end would be to paste an excerpt from an article in the print journal (e.g., from the HR Leadership Forum), and solicit comments from readers and contributors.

Jeff, I think you are spot on. One of the really great things that we could do with this network is enhance and leverage our connection with practice (and vice versa). I would propose that each of us academics should invite at least one practitioner to the network.

We should also find a way to stimulate the discourse.

Maybe using "Groups" on this facility can help us communicate on specific interests/topics?
I just created one (see the logo on the right column) to facilitate interaction between those of us that are interested in how ICTs (Information and Communication Technologies) are changing HR management... hope some of you join and we all help each other be more effective and efficient in our work!

This is a super idea. I think that if we are successful in stimulating actual conversation rather than 'collecting members' then we will sooner or later need some 'channels' to help avoid too much noise and confusion. Your e-HRM group is a great way to start this.

There are several ways we can handle this. I am investigating the alternatives and we will set something up.

In general, I think it would be great to inform the network whenever anyone in the group publishes a new book. If we can create a book-store or book-shelf that would be nice. I agree with Theresa, one way to start would also be to write a blog in here - what is the book about and why should we buy it! :-) That would be featured on the front page as well as your 'member page' and get some attention for your work.

A second suggestion - send a copy to our book review editor (Tim Gardner - he is online in this community as well).

I will update everyone when we have chosen a suitable 'path' to achieve the bookshelf idea - one possibility is that we literally have a link over to the Amazon site. We can embed that in this site. More later.
